COBRA Health Insurance Subsidy Update

With the downturn in the economy and the increased number of people facing layoffs, it is important to know that your medical coverage can continue if you are eligible for COBRA health benefits.  If your job is terminated between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009, you and your family may be able to join COBRA and pay a reduced premium for nine months at a group rate which is usually lower than what an individual would pay.  This government subsidy allows former employees to maintain their health care coverage, sometimes with pre-existing conditions which could include injuries related to the workplace.  This subsidized plan is not available if the company closed or went bankrupt.  For more information, see the Department of Labor webpage:  http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_cobra.HTML

I drive a eighteen wheeler across country. The truck and driver seat is over 4 years old. My codriver and myself both started developing back pain from sitting in a seat 10 hours a day, that was faling apart. Mine developed to be so severe that I began to not be able to stand for any period of time or walk any kind of distances. We wrote the problem with the seat in the vehicle inspection report for several weeks. Nothing was done to solve the issue. Now I have been diagnosed with nerve amage and my doctor said it was due to improper seating on the job. The first course of action was pain meds for 2 weeks. I am being signed out of work for at least one month this following Tuesday so I can recieve physical therapy. I have photos of the seat from many angles and also have a note from my doctor stating that my injury was work related. Do I need to seek an attorney now or wait to see if physical therapy works?
